Club de Pesca Abbey Angling and Rod and Reels

AARARAA AGM

Minutes of the meeting held on Monday 3rd March 2025 at the Abbey Tavern, La Florida

Present:- Richard King, Graham Paterson, Keith Hurst, Trevor Howard, Richard Wood. Alan Priest, Mick Hill, Nick Bastock. Bill Reade, Terry Brindley, Richard Smith, Tony Felstead, Russel Davidson, Trevor Morrey.

Apologies:- Ian Brown , Mike Dixon

Chairman’s Report:- Richard Commented that out of a membership of 50+ we could only muster 14 attendees. Although often at matches there are moans and groans about the club but they cannot be bothered to turn at an AGM to voice their opinion. So we will not tolerate member’s grumbles at matches.

The minutes of the previous meeting were read and approved and signed by the Chairman.

Matters arising:- None

Correspondence:- None

Secretary’s report:- Richard reported that we have a membership of 56 with 7 new members which is going to grow further with new members in the pipeline.

39 Federation cards have been purchase for members which need distributing.

Due to the difficulty in getting subs in on time and the distribution of members and committee members having to use their bank accounts to collect money and carrying club money in their banks which is dangerous should a disaster occur? Also with Ian stuck in Australia and Mick having to have an operation it meant money was all over the place. We have decided to open a bank account now that we have found a internet account which does not cost anything and members will have and IBAN number to pay their subs and Fed fees we can insist that all subs are paid by the 31st December and Fed cards can be purchased early January to avoid the difficulties that members had this year.

Richard is still struggling to update the data base of email addresses of members and Nick suggested a main data base should be set up for the club to hold important information which should be secured to avoid problems with the Personnel Data commission and a heavy fine if we were in breach Richard suggests that it could be added to the web site under a protected access and will wait until Ian returns to discuss it then. In the meantime Richard has prepared a new Application and renewal form for all members to complete to obtain the necessary data.

Treasurer's report:- Mick reports that the club has a healthy balance of 2150,15 Euros in hand but still has money to be paid in from new members and 80 euros from Ian who is in Australia. Richard Smith asked why do we have holiday members paying only 20 euros and it was felt this was not necessary. A motion was put forward by Tony Felstead and seconded by Richard Smith that there be no holiday fee and all should pay the full sum motion carried. Mick advised that each club has to pay 200 euros to keep the 15 matches per club available from the Federation. Alan Priest said it would be good to have an open meeting every 3 months or so to keep members up to date with club affairs all agreed. It was decided that this could be after a Tuesday match at El Bosque and held at the Vibe bar in Catral.

Match Secretary's report:- Alan said we had a good turnout for the March 18/19th  Argos match and all rooms are booked at the hotel and April match there has only 1 space left. Trevor was praised for doing a very good job in Ian’s absence and was thanked by the member’s present, he reports that Richard King won the autumn series but as Ian has some results of the winter matches he cannot complete the results until he returns. Richard King said a presentation would be arranged as soon as the final numbers were in.

Election of Officers and Committee:- election of President and Chairman Richard King was proposed and voted in. Match secretary and IT member Ian Brown proposed by Bill Reade voted in in his absence. Treasurer Mick was happy to stand again and was voted in. Secretary Richard Wood said he would stand again and the chairman remarked that he has had a few moments of problems but has done a difficult job well. Voted in.

Committee Richard King pointed out that the constitution requires 3 members to be elected to the committee Trevor Howard Alan Priest and Trevor Brindley proposed by Alan Priest were elected in.

Proposals: - A proposal by Richard King seconded by Alan Priest. No section in a match to be more than 5 anglers. A long discussion took place with varies views put forward both for and against. A vote was called for and the motion was carried by 7 votes to 5 with 1 abstention.

A proposal was put forward by Bill Reade. Any Match that requires a deposit for prizes and permits. This deposit is non-refundable. A short discussion took place and a vote was cast. Motion carried unanimously.

A.O.B:- Richard Smith said he thought the scales we use in matches are very poor and most attendees agreed saying the previous scales were superior and it was decided that Richard Smith would investigate the Scales Market to see if  a better scale could be found at a reasonable price all agreed. There are 2 of the old Salter scales still in the club.

Alan Priest is going to get a chain or cable lock to feed through the scales and bags in the shed at El Bosque to stop other people using our equipment

Russel Davidson asked about back up members for the committee as if a disaster happened could somebody step in take an officers place without any experience of the job. Trevor Morrey suggested it would be good idea to have an observer alongside to see how the jobs done and said in his old club that’s what they did but they could observe but not take part.

Richard King thanked Graham Patterson for his hard work for the club during his time on the committee for sorting out the shirts and arranging the Christmas match and dinner in Ian’s absence and arranging and erecting the sign board at El Bosque.

Richard Smith said he had heard from a Spanish angler when attending a Spanish match that the Federation arranged a Match for the champion Angler of each club in the Federation at the end of the year but we have never been invited. Richard Wood to inquire from the Federation of the situation if possible for our club to be invited. Also all the matches of other clubs are displayed in tackle shops by the Federation but ours are not is there a reason? Richard Wood to inquire.

Raffle 14 euros was won by Graham Patterson

The date of the next meeting will be Monday 26th January 2026

There being no other business the meeting closed at 4.30pm
